Spreading Joy: Support In-Need Children and Families This Holiday Season

The holiday season is a time of warmth, joy, and giving. As we prepare to celebrate with our loved ones, it’s important to remember those who might be facing hardships during this time. One impactful way to spread the spirit of the season is by supporting in-need children and families. Many families struggle to make ends meet, especially during the holidays, and providing assistance can make a world of difference. Consider donating to our Christmas Initiative by sponsoring a child and/or a family. Your contribution, whether big or small, can provide a meal, a gift, or essential supplies that could brighten someone’s holiday and alleviate the stress that comes with financial difficulties.

The act of giving doesn’t just benefit the recipients; it also warms the hearts of those who give. It fosters a sense of community, empathy, and unity. Each gesture adds to the collective effort of making the holidays brighter for everyone. Moreover, involving friends, family, or coworkers in this initiative can amplify the impact and create a ripple effect of kindness. Let’s come together to spread compassion and generosity, ensuring that every child and family feels the warmth of the season, regardless of their circumstances. Partner with us and help meet the needs of in-need children and families.

Nourishing Lives: ReNew Atlanta’s Senior Mobile Food Pantry

Seven years ago, we embarked on a mission to combat food insecurity among seniors, launching our Senior Mobile Food Pantry. Initially established at The Veranda’s of Auburn Pointe, this initiative has since expanded its reach, making a significant impact in various communities including Veranda Groveway in Roswell, Capital Gateway, MLK Towers, and MLK Senior Living in Atlanta.

With a heartwarming dedication to alleviating hunger among seniors, this program distributes an impressive 4-5 thousand pounds of non-perishable food items every month. The food boxes are carefully curated by the Atlanta Community Food Bank to provide essential nutritional support, containing a variety of items such as cereal, shelf-stable milk, juices, canned fruits, vegetables, meats and more.

The beauty of our Senior Mobile Food Pantry lies not just in the quantity of food distributed, but in the profound difference it makes in the lives of seniors. For many older adults, limited resources often force tough choices between paying bills or purchasing groceries. This program serves as a beacon of hope, offering sustenance and easing the burden of food insecurity.

Beyond the vital provision of nourishment, this initiative fosters a sense of community and support among the recipients. It’s not merely about the food; it’s about the care, consideration, and solidarity extended to those in need. Volunteers and organizers working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this program not just a food distribution effort but a testament to compassion and empathy.

The impact of the mobile pantry extends far beyond the numbers. It’s about restoring dignity, ensuring no one goes to bed hungry, and demonstrating that a caring community stands strong, supporting its most vulnerable members.

As this program continues to flourish and expand its reach, it serves as a reminder of the power of collective efforts in addressing societal challenges. Our Senior Mobile Food Pantry exemplifies the potential for positive change when communities come together to make a difference in the lives of their elders.

Our Senior Mobile Pantry’s seven-year journey is not just a story of food distribution but a testament to the strength of compassion and communal support. It remains a beacon of hope, nurturing both body and soul, and exemplifies the profound impact a thoughtful initiative can have on a community’s most vulnerable members.

College Serve Day

College is a world all by itself. No parents, no rules, no curfew and no one to remind you of all the important things you would otherwise forget. One of those things being the importance of giving back to the community. We created College Serve Day with the busy college student in mind by making serving the community easy. Breakfast and lunch are provided for all volunteers as well as transportation to and from service sites for those who need it.

We kicked off this awesome day of service in February of this year and have served over 10,000 families through community pantries and housing organizations, engaged over 60 children via enrichment activities and delivered food boxes to over 100 seniors. Join us for our next College Serve Day in September!

Senior Mobile Pantry

Our participating seniors are receiving a monthly commodity food supplemental box. The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of low-income elderly persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods.

Through our partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank we are able to distribute CSFP boxes to those who qualify. In addition to the CSFP box, we provide our seniors with an additional bag or box of food with non-perishable and perishable food items.

If you would like to apply for this program, please contact our food pantry at 404-549-3823 ext 224 or 404-850-2053.

Community Food Pantry

In March of 2017 our community food pantry celebrated one year of service to the community! Through our partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank we are able to purchase food items, at a very low cost, to provide in-need families and individuals with needed food items.

Every fourth Saturday of the month our community food pantry is open to the public from 11am-1pm. All clients must show ID, proof of residence and are required to complete an application. Every client will receive non-perishable and perishable food items, as available.

Clients can schedule appointments for food pick-up on Wednesdays between the hours of 5pm and 7pm and every 1st and 2nd Saturday from 11am-1pm.
